West Lancashire Sports Partnership Liverpool Cup

A group of Y5 boys took part in a Level 3 School Games competition hosted by the West Lancashire Sports Partnership. 22 schools from across West Lancashire competed.

The boys displayed great character and determination to compete against some high level opposition.  A productive morning which will prove to be a valuable experience to the team in preparation for next year’s Football League/Cup competitions. Well done boys.

Shares Y5/6 Football League

The first event of the new academic year was the Y5/6 Shares Football League.

A selected squad of 10 children took part in 9 league fixtures over a two week period.  They performed admirably in the league and managed to qualify for the Europa League cup competition in week 3.

The team played some brilliant football in week 3, winning all of their games on route to the final which finished 0-0. On the lottery of a penalty shootout, the children narrowly lost out to finish as runners up. A brilliant effort from all of the children involved.

Shares Y3/4 Football

A select group of children from Y4 recently competed in the Shares Y3/4 Football competition. The team gave their all and scored lots of goals in the 3 fixtures, winning one game before narrowly missing out on a place in the semi-finals.  The children really enjoyed the experience of representing the school football team and did themselves proud. Well done to them all.

Sky Try Rugby Festival

Some of the children at St John’s have recently been working with Leigh Centurions Rugby Club on a scheme aiming to get more children experiencing/playing Rugby.

After 3 coaching sessions learning the basic skills, we selected a group of children to represent St John’s in a Tag-Rugby festival. On a beautiful summer’s day, the children took part in 3 fixtures against other local schools. They did amazingly well, winning one and drawing two of the three fixtures whilst playing some brilliant Rugby.

The children really enjoyed the experience of taking part in a different sport and we hope to work with Leigh Centurions again next year.
