World Religion Day!

For World Religion Day this year children from all year groups researched into the 'Golden Rule' among all religions. Each class looked into how a different religion teaches you to behave towards others. We were excited to find out that all religions share the same belief 'To treat others as you would want to be treated.' Please watch our video made by a selection of pupils for more information.

Jeremy came back to visit us this year. He visited Reception, Year one and year two to help them with their learning.

Islam Day

We were very excited to welcome Nashwa into our school to teach us all about Islam and the life of Muslims. We learnt a lot of important information and it gave us a true insight into the life of someone else. We explored lots of artefacts such as prayer mats and traditional clothing. Nashwa also showed us some very interesting videos some which showed how they pray and some that taught us a lot about the Hajj.

The questions that the KS2 children asked Nashwa on the day were fantastic, they definitely used Nashwa to help them with their R.E topic.

Thank You from Year 2

Year 2 would like to say a big thank you to everyone who brought in shoes for our collection as part of our Year of Mercy. We have taken them to a charity shop.

Good Shepherd Mass 2016

This year not only did the children from year 4 join the Good Shepherd Mass to present our gift of £523.60 to Bishop Thomas in the cathedral. We also were part of a very special event, the children joined together with 10 other schools to make up the choir for the mass. The children have been working tremendously hard over the past 4 weeks with Stuart M O’Hara a singing teacher sent by the cathedral to learn our parts for the mass. The children did an amazing job it was truly magical to listen to the children sing in this way. We have thoroughly enjoyed being part of this occasion.

Well done to Faith for making her first Holy Communion at St Richards Church.

Holy Communion

Congratulations to all of the children who made their first holy communion on Saturday at St Mary’s church. We are so proud of all of the children they all looked beautiful in their outfits and sang fantastically. Some of the children led the readings along with Miss Rimmer who was extremely proud of the children from her year four class. We look forward to our celebration mass which will be held in school later in the summer term.

Good Shepherd Assembly

We were delighted to welcome Mary and Angela into our school to teach us all about the Good Shepherd appeal and all the amazing work they do for lots of different people.

Ash Wednesday Service

We were delighted to invite the deacon to distribute the ashes during our Ash Wednesday service. Some of our year five class helped to lead the service by guiding us through the service and by reading some thoughtful bidding prayers.

Year 6 visit to Liverpool Cathedral

On Wednesday 9th December, year 6 were invited to attend the 'Carols for School Advent Service' in Liverpool Cathedral. Children watched a nativity performance and sang Christmas carols. We had a wonderful time. The theme of the afternoon was 'Happiness'. We designed and made a banner to take along with us to represent St John's. Year 6 decorated letters from 'St John's Catholic Primary School' in colours and patterns that made us 'happy'. A lovely way to start the celebrations of Christmas.

Our Bishop visits us.

Our Bishop The Right Reverend Thomas Anthony Williams came to visit our school. We were delighted to welcome him into our school and show him all the fantastic R.E work we have been completing. He watched our brilliant Harvest assembly which was led by year 2. He then spent time in all the classes from nursery to year 6, talking to the children and answering some questions that the children had prepared.

Harvest with Year 2

Year 2 performed their Harvest assembly for parents and Bishop Tom. Everyone really enjoyed watching it.

Thank you to parents for the money sent in during our BRIGHTEN UP for harvest day. We raised £80.00
