Exciting Announcement!

This week we launched a brand new initiative called, 'Achievements to Treasure Before Leaving St. John's.' In essence it is a list of activities that we feel are important for a child to experience during their primary school years.

The curriculum council have worked closely with Miss Derome for over a year now to make sure that all the activities are right for our children, adequately challenging but more importantly activities that will provide an exciting experience covering a full range of interests and hobbies.

The activities that the children have designed have been made into a treasure trail and every year group has its own set of challenges to achieve and treasure, illustrated beautifully on classroom posters. Examples include 'Learn a new language', 'Go stargazing' and ' Hold a scary beast'.

We are all extremely excited about this innovative project, which is a completely unique design, something you won’t see in other schools, but which we believe enhances our fantastic curriculum, enriching the lives of the children at St. John's.

My name is Angela Aspinwall-Livesey and I have the privilege to be Executive Headteacher of St. John’s Catholic Primary School. Visitors to our school comment on the warm welcome they receive and the friendly atmosphere that exists. I think this is because we have fantastic staff who value our children and their families; staff who work very hard to provide rich and fulfilling experiences which enable our children to become happy, confident and successful citizens of the future.

Here at St. John’s we have the highest of expectations of what our children can achieve. We strive to inspire, enthuse and motivate all children to develop a lifelong love of learning through our creative curriculum combined with our stunning out of hours study support so that they make outstanding progress and attain their very best.

St. John’s has an excellent reputation both locally and Lancashire wide and we are extremely proud of our achievements. Successes include being the first primary school in the North West to have the Advanced Quality in Study Support Award, one of the first schools to be awarded a Platinum Arts Mark and we have been a National Support School since 2011. Our SAT’s results at KS2 have been, since 2012, above National Averages for Progress, Better than Expected Progress and Maths and English Combined. Our most recent Ofsted (2012) states we are a ‘good school with outstanding features’ and our Section 48 Inspection (2012) states ‘we are an outstanding Catholic school’.

We believe that our fantastic outcomes are a consequence of our values and philosophy. We value each child as an individual and aim to provide opportunities for all to excel in areas where they have a special talent whether this is in sport, drama, art, music or through involvement in our School Council.

We have high expectations of everyone at St. John’s; we work hard but there is a great deal of fun and laughter along the way. I do hope that you will navigate our website to check out what our talented youngsters get up to on a weekly basis.
